The concept of the Great Southern Road travel book is influenced by the road history and rally events that took place along our southern borders. There is a special focus on the famous 1968 and 1993 events of the London to Sydney Marathons . The Great Southern Road travel book page spreads are dedicated to towns and roadhouse settlements along the route of the Great Southern Road, from Perth to Sydney. We have endeavoured to include as much information about each particular location as we can. The information includes a little bit of history from the time of settlement, the population according to the 2016 census, derivation of town names, including English translations from the indigenous languages and some history of Australia's First Nations people. We also include the immediate natural tourist attractions as well as some of the famous events that occurred in each area. The book describes many exciting road and rally incidents which have happened along the Great Southern Road route, in addition to the stories about the Australian leg of the London to Sydney Marathons. The book is in two parts and a map with Part 1 and Part 2 major towns and cities is included. The pages have some enjoyable information to read about the local history, tourist attractions and road and rally stories which have shaped the unique Australian character. You can also enjoy Glen Redgate's stunning photographs of the various locations within. The information, stories and pictures on each page are excellent for simply a good read or the book can be used as your travel guide to discovery as you journey along the Great Southern Road. You can see historic land marks , enjoy spectacular and often unique scenery, share myths and legends and get to know some of the wonderful charachters who live along Australia's Great Southern Road.
